"Nutrition and Cancer: Statewide Preceptor Education"

The purpose of this grant is to provide nutrition education and clinical practice support materials for community physicians who serve as preceptors to train medical students in their offices throughout Nevada.

"Hormone Refractory Prostate Cancer: Effect of Omega-3 Fatty Acids"
PI: Ron Pardini, Ph.D., Co-PI: Judith Ashley, Ph.D., R.D. Funding source: Sanford Center The purpose of this grant is to investigate the efficacy and safety of high oral doses of omega-3 fatty acids (DHA)in men with prostate cancer who are refractory to hormone ablation.

"Statewide Survey of Elementary School Employees on the School Environment"
PI: Jamie Benedict, Ph.D., R.D., Co-PI: Gwenn Snow, M.S., R.D. Funding Source: University of Nevada Agricultural Experiment Station This statewide survey will provide information about characteristics of the elementary school environment that may impact obesity risk among children. School employees' opinions of strategies that may be useful in promoting healthful food choices and physical activity among students, barriers that may encountered, and their perceived roles will also be assessed.

"Statewide Assessment of Nevada's Food Stamp Program Participants"
PI: Jamie Benedict, Co-PI: Gwenn Snow, M.S., R.D.
Funding Source: Food Stamp Program, U.S. Department of Agriculture Using qualitative methodologies, the purpose of this study is to learn more about nutrition-education related priorities and values of low-income persons throughout Nevada.
